Summary of Practice

Julian has over 30 years’ experience, having a considerable and respected reputation in the fields of crime and family work.

Qualifying as a barrister in 1990 Julian transferred to become a solicitor in 1994. He is a Higher Rights Advocate (criminal and civil) and a Court and Police Station duty solicitor and a member of the Law Society’s’ Child Panel (having been a member since 1998). He had for a number of years been on the committee of the London Criminal Courts Solicitors Association (LCCSA) and was Junior Vice President and Vice President of the Association.

After a 6 year stint as a Justices Clerk, Julian, entered private practice in the Newcastle area in 1994 and soon gained a formidable reputation representing clients in a number of areas of work in particular criminal, family and public law.

In 1998 Julian moved to London and the following year started his own practice in West London. His reputation has grown and flourished.

He has been at the vanguard in the defence of successive governmental attacks on legal aid in 2007 and this year. He was instrumental, along with colleagues from the LCCSA, in arranging the public protest in Parliament Square on 22nd May 2013 and March 2014.

In 2018 he joined forces with Seema Dosaj at Berris Law where they run one of the most progressive and exciting firms in London.

Family/Child care work

As a member of the Law Society Children Panel since 1998, Julian has vast experience in representing children, children’s guardians, parents, grandparents and interveners in the Family Proceedings, County and High Courts. He undertakes most, if not all the advocacy in such cases.

Julians expertise has been well utilised undertaking numerous training events for colleagues, Guardians and social workers and others working within the care system.

Criminal work

Julian has undertaken a wide variety of work with particular specialism in serious crime involving murder, terrorism, serious frauds, drugs and conspiracy cases.

His dedication and hardwork was recognised with his nomination and shortlisting for the Crime legal aid lawyer (LALY’s) of the year awards in 2012

Author

Julian is also a published author with the book Stonehouse – Cabinet minister, Fraudster, Spy  the biography of the politician John Stonehouse a true story of political intrigue, espionage, a disappearance and an Old Bailey trial.

Accreditations

Julian is a member of the Crime Duty Solicitor Panel, he is also Law Society Child Panel Member and also has Higher Courts (All Proceedings) Advocacy Rights.

Professional memberships

Julian was up until 2015 a committee member and Former Vice President of the LCCSA and retains membership of that organisation. He is a member of the SAHCA.
